Aikido - Children's Martial Arts Classes and More

Aikido Kids: Ages 8-12

This fun and insightful class offers all the benefits of a traditional martial arts experience while kids learn non-violent and effective ways of meeting challenges and conflict.

Our curriculum includes a full spectrum of Aikido technique, falling and rolling skills, mindfulness practices, and Sensei's years of experience with games/activities that forge better attention and response, centered awareness, confidence, and engagement with life.

Aikido is the perfect after school activity for kids 8-12, and an enduring investment in your child. Many move on to our adult/teen program where their foundation is expanded and matured.

Aikido Action Hour: Ages 5-7

Our little ones really enjoy this class as they practice the most fundamental skills in body and mind, and use much of their seemingly endless energy.

The children learn rolling, falling, and safety skills, balance and centering, and the basics of working with other people through Aikido technique.

Activities, techniques, games, and challenges are presented in playful ways to capture the interest of little ones while building valuable skills for life, fitness, and future Aikido training.

Membership Details

Only $60/month! Classes are on Tuesdays from 4:45 to 5:30. Parents and children are welcome to stay until 5:45 for some free play on our big mat.

Because of the age group, we recommend that parents be at the dojo during this class. Wi-Fi is available.

Games For Good: Ages 7-10

An exciting new kids' class centered around group games! This is not a martial arts class, but the principles and skills we focus on are all related to aikido.

Goldberg Sensei facilitates this class in a highly engaging, non-competitive, and playful environment. Games focus on fun ways to practice skills like:

body, mind, and group awareness • clearer communication • agility • responsiveness • cooperation with circumstances • creativity and imagination

This 8-week class begins January 10 on Thursdays at 4:45. The investment is only $119.

Stay tuned for details.

"My children (now 22 and 16) have trained at Aikido of San Diego for nine years despite the fact we live quite a distance away. Familiar with many other forms of martial arts, we chose aikido for two reasons: it is an excellent martial art for adults and children, and it is grounded in a spiritual philosophy whose benefits extend far beyond the mat into everyday life. We chose Aikido of San Diego because it's the best dojo in the county and Dave Goldberg is the best Sensei around!"

Aikido is a fun, healthy, positive after-school activity for boys and girls. Martial arts training for kids helps them develop confidence, self-discipline, respect, and fitness. But unlike karate, kick boxing, mixed martial arts, or taekwondo classes, which can focus on fear, fighting, defensiveness, and competition, Aikido classes for children emphasize becoming a more centered, balanced, compassionate, and happy person. Aikido training is low impact - it does not involve punching or kicking, which can be damaging to growing bones and young joints. Safety and cooperative training are emphasized in every class. Training at Aikido of San Diego is a life-affirming experience, helping to develop good character and life-long habits in youth, from little kids to early teens.
