Join us over the Columbus Day Weekend as we explore, through aikido, the evolving nature of ourselves, the world, and the art itself.
Evolutionary Aikido is a perspective on the art that's rooted in the knowing that we all share in one system. Our practice is process oriented, and involves not only the improvement of technical skills, but also an embodied transformation of ourselves. We look into where we are, what is next, and how we make space for a new level of awareness, understanding, and ability to take shape.
Patrick Cassidy is the Chief Instructor of Aikido Montreux, and the supervising founder of the Evolutionary Aikido Community. He spent seven years in Iwama, Japan practicing under the late Morihiro Saito Sensei, and was the founder and Chief Instructor of Aikido of Fresno. Cassidy Sensei is also a committed, long-time practitioner of both yoga and tea ceremony. His work is inspired by O-Sensei's expressed statement that "We are One." His innovative processes explore the relationships between being, insight, and action.
Dave Goldberg is the founder and chief instructor of Aikido of San Diego. In the early 90’s he lived in Japan for 3½ years to train under some of Morihei Ueshiba's most prolific disciples. He has a BA in philosophy and an MA in teaching. He also studied somatic psychology, and is a BodyMind College graduate. He's a co-founding member of the Evolutionary Aikido Community, and is inspired to teach Aikido as the martial, Life art.
There will be training sessions Friday through Monday. Expect to include empty-handed work, stick work, Aiki Improv (unique to the EAC), and meditation and inquiry. Some group meals and activities will also be planned. Enjoy every session, or take some extra time to enjoy San Diego. A basic, tentative schedule is posted below.
For those of you coming from out of town there are some good options. The Lamplighter Inn is across the street from us. It's one of the closest hotels to San Diego State University so book early. Basic accommodations will also be available in the dojo by donation. Reserve with us in advance, please.
